Born and raised in Ōtautahi/Christchurch, New Zealand, Louis is an adventurer and professional photographer. On first leaving New Zealand he set out to explore Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia, from the Atlas mountains in Morocco to the bustling streets of Mexico City, using his camera to document the people, places and fleeting moments that define the ordinary and the extraordinary. In search of a slice of stability, Louis embarked on a career of parachuting, where he found his first introduction to commissioned aerial photography – strapping a DSLR and video camera to his helmet and jumping out of an aeroplane at 15,000 feet, capturing those adrenaline-fuelled moments of human flight in space. Throughout his parachuting career he has clocked up nearly 6000 skydives in Europe, the United States and Australasia.
Following a turbulent landing in the back yard of a farmer’s property, resulting in various pins and plates, he turned his attention to a more land-based photographic career through the CPIT School of Art and Design. Since then Louis has photographed commercial enterprises, workplaces, celebrities, indigenous communities, adventure travel and extreme sports for lead editorial stories, and advertising campaigns. His work is recognised for its compelling environmental portraiture and an approach to story-telling that is both raw yet finely polished.
